Let’s Talk about Medical Missions

GMHC 2012 ConferenceIn November, I love attending the Global Missions Health Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.

I was asked to moderate a panel on “Women in Healthcare Ministries.”  The session was packed and there was not an empty chair in the room. Two of the doctors assigned to the panel didn’t show up, but God is good! At the last minute a colleague from Pakistan who is a midwife came to the session and agreed to be on the panel.  Many of the questions were directed to her as a single woman working in a Muslim country.

Grace Tazelaar, NCF Mission Director, was also on the panel and these two missionary veterans did a great service to help those who attended get a glimpse of women in healthcare ministry.

My seminar on “Burn Care in the Developing World” was also well-attended and well-received. Grace led a session about training lay people in health ministry.  I heard many people tell her she “hit just the right notes.”

So all in all it was a good conference for us.  Our NCF display had huge amounts of traffic, too, and we’re hoping for a lot of new NCF members. God be praised!
